Every year, 20 billion pairs of shoes are made, and roughly 300 million are thrown out.
Reducing Our Footprint
Old shoes take 30-40 years to decompose and some midsoles can last up to 1000 years in landfill.
Since starting out in 2017, The Sneaker Laundry has been committed to creating an environmentally sustainable business model. We are committed to taking sneaker maintenance to Australians to prolong the wearability of shoes before they get binned.
Second-Chance Sneakers
Since 2017, we’ve received, restored and donated thousands of sneakers through our Second-Chance Sneaker initiative. In partnership with Launch Housing, Frontyard Youth Services, and the Salvation Army (and supported by the Melbourne City Council).
If you’d like to donate a pair of sneakers to the cause, drop into our Sydney or Melbourne store. Please be aware that we cannot accept shoes with rips and tears in them, as we cannot restore them.
Product Formula
Over the years, we’ve been developing the formula in our cleaning solutions to be more eco-friendly.
We're proud to own and use a plant based product. Good for you, and good for the drains too.
Packaging
Since 2019, we’ve made a conscious effort to reduce the number of non-recyclable sachets we send out in products. We use recyclable shipping boxes and biodegradable packing peanuts. Safe, secure, and sustainable.
